Tiffany Dome
The architect of the Marshall Field’s department store was Daniel Burnham. It was built in Beaux-Arts style in 1906.
Louis Comfort Tiffany designed a mosaic dome that covers the interior of a five-story atrium. It took 18 months to cover this 6000 sq ft ceiling with 1.6 million pieces of shimmering glass. It is the largest glass mosaic in the world.
The exterior of the building is adorned by two Great Clocks made of 7 tons of bronze. The face of the clock is 46 inches across.
A glorious representation of bygone master craftsmanship.
