Shibuya Crossing

Tokyo’s Shibuya Crossing is the busiest pedestrian intersection in the world. It originated in 1973 and three thousand people can cross it in any green light.

Between Shibuya Station and the crossing, there is the bronze statue of the Akita dog, Hachiko. Hachiko would meet his owner, Professor Ueno, every time he returned from Tokyo University. One day the professor died at work and Hachiko was waiting for his return at Shibuya Station for the next nine years. The statue of him was erected in 1948.
