Bank Interior

These six photographs are of the interior of the Grand Banking Hall of the Central Standard Building located on 231 South LaSalle Street in Chicago.

The building received its name because on this site, in 1883, the General Time Convention divided the United States several times zones and Chicago was in the “Central” zone.

The 88,000 square foot Grand Banking Hall is located on the second floor of the building. The architectural style is a fuse of neoclassical and Gothic with Art Deco impact.

The Vault Room door is the original from what once was the largest safety deposit vault in the city.
